JAHM logo Today I saw an interesting article in the Ohio Jewish Chronicle about an event/concept that is new to me. I thought I'd share it with the group.

Jewish American Heritage Month
http://www.jewishamericanheritagemonth.us/index.aspx

The site offers biographies of famous, and not so famous, Jews. The article I saw alludes to the accomplishments of Sandy Koufax.

From the JAHM Web site:

By Congressional resolution and Presidential
proclamation, May is Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM)

A national month of recognition of the more than 350-year history of
Jewish contributions to American culture, JAHM acknowledges the
achievements of American Jews in fields ranging from sports and arts and
entertainment to medicine, business, science, government, and military
service.

The JAHM website is an interactive clearinghouse for events,
programs, and activities nationwide and a resource for school and
community leaders. Submit your events, sign up for email updates, and
find out what’s happening in your neighborhood and across the country.

A quick search of the events calendar for "baseball" yielded one result:

"Jews in Baseball" with Mel Marmer

The Senior Adult Department of the Mayerson JCC,
Cincinnati hosts a presentation by Mel Marmer entitled "Jews in baseball."

Place: Mayerson JCC, 8485 Ridge
Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236

Date: 05/21/2010 1:00 PM to 2:00
PM

Type: Lecture

Depending on my work schedule, I might try to attend. Does anyone know Mel?

More importantly, if anyone is interested in sharing your Jewish sports memorabilia collection, this might be a great excuse to create a speaking opportunity in your community. I think there's some terrific opportunities here, waiting to be explored. Anyone inspired to do so?
